Postural Fitness Classes
Modern life – desk work, cars, repetitive computer use – mean one thing for the human population: reduced levels of manual labour. The human body was designed to move, to build on its core strength, to walk, run, lift and stretch.
For many of us, modern life means we are simply out of condition and possess poor strength and posture.
At eastwest physiotherapy we offer our patients a safe and effective strength training program, primarily based on the research and clinical expertise of therapists such as Francine St George, Stuart McGill and Kit Laughlin.
Exercises commence with activation of dormant segments to overcome muscle amnesia caused by injury or inactivity.
Progression towards functional movement patterns and heavier loads can then occur.
Small classes with individual programs are the key to avoiding injury and building a stronger physical base.
Pilates is a system of exercises designed to develop strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture.
The pilates method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy. You will gain more strength from a few energetic concentrated efforts than from a thousand listless, sluggish movements. The goal is for this precision to eventually become second nature and carry over into everyday life.
Ingrid and her team are located within eastwest physiotherapy and provide exceptional pilates either privately, duet or studio sessions.
The Gyrotonic Expansion system is a holistic approach to movement that can be adapted to meet the needs of people of all ages and abilities. This movement modality consists of circular movements that flow together seamlessly with corresponding breath patterns. Each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. Gyrotonic stretches and strengthens at the same time with minimal effort.
The Gyrotonic Tower apparatus helps to facilitate this freedom of movement.
Yamuna Foot Fitness
Our feet are subject to tremendous stress. We use them daily with all our weight bearing down into them. They do most of this work while tied up in shows. As a result, the feet can’t function fully. They become contracted, the bones narrow towards each other, the muscles atrophy and the fascia glues it all together.
A basic principle of YFF is that restriction, pain and discomfort are caused by lack of space. When your feet are not properly aligned, and don’t function fully, your legs, hips and back won’t either.
YFF releases impact from the feet, creating greater ease of movement in the joints above.
