What is the ONERO Program?

The Osteoporosis “ONERO” Program in Sydney is a specialised, evidence-based exercise protocol aimed at improving and maintaining bone mineral density. Designed by Professor Belinda Beck, a leading exercise physiologist, it is ideal for individuals with osteopenia or osteoporosis or anyone seeking to ensure strong and healthy bones in later life.

Unlike medications often prescribed to improve bone density, the ONERO Program has no side effects, making it an excellent alternative for treating osteoporosis and managing bone health.

At Eastwest Physiotherapy, we are certified to deliver ONERO exercise classes in Sydney, ensuring participants receive expert guidance. The program is simple to follow, fun, and tailored to stimulate bone development, build muscle strength, and improve physical function.

FAQs

Yes – if you have the relevant extras cover. Our classes are run by our certified Physiotherapists. You’ll need to check with your health fund to confirm if you’re covered. The item number for a physiotherapy group class is 560.

Please note: You need a 1-hour initial consultation before starting the classes. The item number for a physiotherapy initial consultation is 500.

Your Initial 60 minute one on one session includes:

  • A physical assessment
  • Onero benchmark strength and balance measurements
  • A guided gym session to go through the Onero exercises.
  • Help setting up the class booking and payment app so you can easily manage your classes

As the program involves progressive loading, the physiotherapist will check your technique and ensure it’s safe for you to join a class. If needed, they may recommend a couple of one-on-one sessions before starting.

If you have the relevant health cover, the initial consultation item number is 500.

If you have a Health Management (CDM) Care Plan from your GP, you’ll need to pay the full consultation fee on the day. We will then submit the claim to Medicare on your behalf, and Medicare will deposit the rebate into your nominated bank account. Please note that you are only able to use the care plan for one-on-one consultations and can not be used for class sessions.

Our classes run for 45 minutes, with 40 sessions available each week. Each class is capped at 8 participants to allow for close supervision by the physio. Some classes are currently full. If you would prefer a regular weekly class, please contact us to check availability. Otherwise, you’re welcome to simply book classes as you go.

To get the best results for bone density, it is recommended to attend two Onero classes per week.

Our 45 minute Onero classes are $40 per session, with over 40 sessions available each week. Each class is capped at 8 participants to allow for close supervision by the physio. Some classes are currently full. If you would prefer a regular weekly class, please contact us to check availability. Otherwise, you’re welcome to simply book classes as you go.

For those who don’t yet feel confident joining a group of 8, we also offer Onero Transition Classes. These smaller classes have a maximum of 4 to 5 participants, allowing for additional supervision and support while you build confidence with the exercises before progressing into the larger classes. Transition Classes are $60 per session due to the smaller class size and increased level of supervision.

No — there are no lock-in contracts.

Clients can book classes up to 4 weeks in advance and manage their bookings through our class app or online booking system.

If a class is full, you can join the waitlist through the app and will be notified if a spot becomes available.

If there is a regular class that suits you and a spot is available, we can also set up a recurring booking so that class is reserved for you each week.

Classes are paid in advance via a class pack, and we have a 12-hour cancellation policy for class bookings.

Once you have completed your initial consultation with one of our physiotherapists, you can book and manage your Onero classes through our app.

As Onero classes are limited to 8 participants, some sessions may be full. Our booking system allows you to view availability and manage your class bookings easily.

  • 78% of patients improved the bone mineral density of their femoral neck (thigh bone)
  • 82% of patients improved the bone mineral density of their lumbar spine (lower back bones)
  • Improvements in bone density levels that are comparable to, or even better than, medication.

Regular participation, at least twice a week, is key to achieving these results and sustaining long-term bone health.
