Joint Pain & Arthritis

Joint pain is common across a variety of age groups. It can cause substantial pain and can restrict movement. It can impede daily activities, sport and work which can have quite a negative impact on quality of life.

It may arise from a number of causes such as arthritis. With sporting or work related injuries joint damage may occur from trauma or overuse with disruption of cartilage, ligament and damage to bone.

Common conditions:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Joint Dislocation
  • Cartilage damage
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Spondyloarthritis
  • Meniscal injuries
  • Labral tears
  • Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
  • Synovitis
  • Hyperextensions/trauma
  • Osteochondral defects

Systemic or inflammatory conditions require a multimodal approach as treating the symptoms often provide only short term relief. As research is showing the ‘wear and tear’ explanation or arthritis is now dated in favour of an inflammatory condition which requires general and specific exercises and lifestyle changes.

At Eastwest we provide a holistic approach to care and help patients retore function and return to daily activities. We use an individualised evidence based treatment plan. In addition to manual therapy we use laser, shockwave, taping, dry needling/acupuncture to provide pain relief and tissue healing. Optimal treatment of joint conditions will almost always include an exercise program which you will be guided through in our clinic.
