Eastwest Physio offers private, duet and small classes in clinical yoga designed to unlock and release the neuro-myofascial system to create flexibility, balance and freedom in your body. Yoga sequences are specifically tailored to address your needs and goals and are accessible to anyone and everyone. The practice builds strength and stability through the legs, core and spine, balanced with lengthening the muscles and fascia to improve mobility, posture and ease of movement.
Our classes are taught by Eastwest’s yogi and qualified physiotherapist, Carlee. She has over 20 years’ experience in teaching yoga and combined with her clinical knowledge she will ensure the practice is effective and safe for you.
Why do clinical yoga?
Are you one of those people that has that little voice inside your head that says “I’m not flexible enough to do yoga”, then these classes are for you. Being physically flexible is not a prerequisite. More important is to have a flexible mind, a willingness to come and just have a go. Flexibility and strength can be difficult to maintain as we get older. The collagen and elasticity in our tissues decreases which can adversely affect optimal posture and movement patterns, increase our risk of injury and affect our ability to enjoy the activities we love. Come and learn how to stretch, not strain, effectively and enjoy a new sense of freedom in your body.
What’s on offer at Eastwest?
Book in with Carlee for a one-on-one introduction session which includes a full assessment to identify any injuries or restrictions and then you choose – work one on one or join a class that aligns with your goals to get your whole system buzzing and feeling great. Classes are delivered in a relaxed and fun environment and there are only up to 5 people in a class to keep everyone spacious and safe
The styles of classes vary and include:
A rhythmic, dynamic style of yoga where the movement is paired with the breath. It is a playful practice characterised by the flowing nature of the sequencing, with one pose seamlessly moving to the next, like a moving meditation. Classes are themed with a focus on different body regions – glutes (butt), shoulders, spine, hamstrings, core. You name it, we strengthen and lengthen it.
A slower paced style of yoga focused on releasing and restoring the deep connective tissue in the body. These classes integrate myofascial release techniques using trigger balls, foam rollers and hands-on manual therapy to prepare the tissue for long, juicy holds in mat-based yoga poses to open up the myofascial meridians. Yin is about finding stillness and deep rest to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system; your rest, digest and repair system. Yin is the perfect therapeutic counterpoint for those who hit the gym hard, spend hours in front of a screen or for those who just feel stiff and sluggish. Grab a mat, a bolster and prepare to get stretched.
These classes are for experienced practitioners or yogis that have been practicing for a long time but have never been unable to unlock why they can’t achieve more advanced postures like headstand, handstand, arm balances and backbends. A thorough assessment will identify what needs to strengthened and lengthened to enable your body to move into these more advanced postures. With intelligent sequencing, these classes will create the foundations and building blocks you need to ensure you are moving in and out of these more challenging poses safely and effectively.
Classes are delivered in a relaxed and playful environment. All ages and abilities welcome. Mats and props all supplied by Eastwest. All you need to bring is yourself and your willingness to step out of your comfort zone, out of pain and into a more balanced and connected YOU.
